Non-blocking Algorithm for Eventual Consistent Replicated Database on Cloud

چکیده

One of the challenges of cloud programming is to achieve the right balance between availability and consistency in a distributed database. Cloud computing environments, particularly cloud databases, are rapidly increasing in importance, acceptance and usage in major applications, which need the partition-tolerance and availability for scalability purposes, thus sacrificing the consistency side (CAP theorem). With this approach, use of paradigms such as eventual consistency became more widespread. In these environments, a large number of user’s access data stored in highly available storage systems. In this research we use eventually consistent transactions with revision diagrams for visibility and arbitration to manage updates in replicates. We present a new non-blocking algorithm to implement eventual consistency using revision diagrams and fork-join data in a distributed environment. Finally, we show that the proposed method solves the problem.

Stronger Semantics for Low-Latency Geo-Replicated Storage

We present the first scalable, geo-replicated storage system that guarantees low latency, offers a rich data model, and provides “stronger” semantics. Namely, all client requests are satisfied in the local datacenter in which they arise; the system efficiently supports useful data model abstractions such as column families and counter columns; and clients can access data in a causallyconsistent...

ao 2 Asynchronous Backup and Initialization of a Database Server for Replicated Database Systems

A possibility of a temporary disconnection of database service exists in many computing environments. It is a common need to permit a participating site to lag behind and re-initialize to full recovery. It is also necessary that active transactions view a globally consistent system state for ongoing operations. We present an algorithm for on-the-fly backup and site-initialization. The technique...

DE DOCTORAT DE l ’ UNIVERSITÉ PIERRE

Web applications rely on replicated databases to place data close to their users, and to tolerate failures. Many replication systems opt for eventual consistency, which offers excellent responsiveness and availability, but may expose applications to the complexity of concurrency and failures. To alleviate this problem, recent replication systems have begun to strengthen their interface with add...

Brief Announcement: Semantics of Eventually Consistent Replicated Sets

This paper studies the semantics of sets under eventual consistency. The set is a pervasive data type, used either directly or as a component of more complex data types, such as maps or graphs. Eventual consistency of replicated data supports concurrent updates, reduces latency and improves fault tolerance, but forgoes strong consistency (e.g., linearisability). Accordingly, several cloud compu...
